WHAT IS THE ASSOCIATION'S MISSION STATEMENT ?
To serve the community as a whole and in its entirety, in the office of a marriage celebrant, in the most professional and informative manner possible whilst fulfilling the requirements of the Marriage Act 1961.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN THIS ASSOCIATION ?
Our Association is a friendly group of celebrants whose members are always willing to assist their colleagues. You can be assured of a warm welcome. Every new member receives a Certificate of Membership, a copy of the Association’s Constitution, and a Phone Directory which lists the names and contact details of all our members.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO JOIN ?
If you are a registered celebrant with an appointment from the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department your annual fee would be $80. Trainee celebrants pay half the annual fee at $40 until they are registered then they are asked to pay the full $80 fee.
IS THERE A JOINING FEE ?
No. We do not ask our members to pay a joining fee.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE ASSOCIATION MEET ?
We meet bi-monthly on the third Wednesday in February, April, June, August (the Annual General Meeting) and in October. A Christmas celebration get-together is usually held sometime in November in lieu of the December meeting.
WHERE DOES THE ASSOCIATION MEET ?
We meet at the Bankstown Sports Club, Greenfield Parade, Bankstown at 7pm. Many of our members meet in the club Bistro prior to the General Meeting to share a meal and happy conversation.
WHAT DOES THE ASSOCIATION OFFER ?
Friendship and comradeship; the opportunity to network with other colleagues; to share experiences; the opportunity to exchange information. It is usual to end each meeting with a ‘round robin’ which is always informative.
WHO CAN JOIN ?
Membership is open to all celebrants whether they are a civil celebrant or a religious celebrant. Trainee celebrants are also eligible to join and would be made most welcome.
DOES THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDE ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ?
Since the inception in 2003 of Ongoing Professional Development, brought in by the then Commonwealth Attorney General, the Hon. Darryl Williams, the Association has been active each year in presenting informative and interesting OPD activities. These sessions have been available to all civil and religious marriage celebrants in order to further their celebrancy knowledge and fulfil their compulsory requirements.
DOES THE ASSOCIATION OFFER TRAINING ?
Our celebrants are always willing to offer Mentoring to newly appointed celebrants. From time to time as the need arises the Association will offer Refresher courses as well as instruction on the subjects of Baby Naming and Funeral services.
DOES THE ASSOCIATION SEND THE MEMBERS A NEWSLETTER ?
Yes. A newsletter, Signed, Sealed and Delivered is sent six times a year to every member. The newsletter is posted to members sometime in the week prior to the next meeting. The editors strive to give the latest information relevant to celebrancy and to inform the members of any directives or latest information put out from the Marriage Celebrants Section, Attorney General’s Department.
WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND THE MEETINGS ? WILL THAT AFFECT MY MEMBERSHIP ?
No. Every member is kept up to date with information through receiving the minutes of the meetings and through the Newsletter "Signed, Sealed and Delivered"
